Real Jared went in with a bunch of other guys and they got a satellite internet connection. It’s stupid expensive and it runs a bit slow during peak time, but now he can get online for a few minutes right before he goes to bed instead of needing to make the time to get to the internet cafe. We instant message as much as we can, though the time difference sometimes makes it a little tough. Today he managed to call but the call got cut short, though he did manage to talk to Joel and Mira for a second or two. I later recorded Mira saying “Daddy” because she won’t ever say it when she’s actually talking to him, but will walk around saying it for 15 minutes afterwards. The thing is that I recorded it with my phone and the darn thing is so much smarter than me that I couldn’t figure out how to transfer the file to the computer. Still working on that…

We use yahooIM, which has a voice conference feature, but he hasn’t yet downloaded the patch he needs for it to work on his computer. But then we remembered that we both have Skype accounts. After a quick search I located him in the directory and walked him through how to use it. Here at home we just have a USB speakerphone and it has kind of an echo, and there was a bit of a lag, but what do I care, it worked! So Jared got to hear his baby girl saying her first word, “daddy”, thanks to the wonder of the internet! Pretty awesome stuff…
